Our white wines from Friuli

In the far northeastern corner of the Italian peninsula there is a wine-growing region that climbs the hills of Friuli and never ceases to amaze with its oenological excellence: we are talking about the D.O.C. Friuli Colli Orientali.

Within this small territory consisting of only 19 municipalities is our winery, which has been making typical Friulian wines for a century.

AWARD WINES.
Pignolo: awarded Quattro Viti from 2018 to 2023

If it were a book it would be Alessandro Baricco's Mr Gwyn. He's a bit of a handful in the vineyard and in the cellar, but, after a long barrique maturation, Pignolo can tell the story of the Friuli of the Colli Orientali with a touch of unexpected magic and also conquers the four screws of the Guidae Vitae 2023.

Friulian indigenous wines

The best-known wines of Friuli-Venezia Giulia are definitely the whites. Prominent among them are the native wines of our territory, such as the Friulano, still called Tocai by many, which is certainly the best known thanks also to the sad story of contentions.

Not to forget the Malvasia, whose plantations run along the Istrian coast and the Trieste karst all the way to us, whose wine surprises with its infinite nuances and can vary greatly from winery to winery.

And finally the Ribolla Gialla, one of the best white wines from Friuli that has been rooted in our territory for over 7 centuries. The beauty of this wine also lies in its versatility:in fact, it can be made into an orange wine, a still white wine or a sparkling wine, and we have chosen to make it in the latter two versions.

Friulian still white wines

Among the Friulian white wines produced by our winery, we can also find other varieties that, although they are not from native Friulian grape varieties, are now rooted in the local wine scene. A prime example is the Sauvignon, a wine of French origin that landed in our region in the mid-700s when, from its encounter with ponca, our soil, it was able to show its best, giving us a fine and elegant bouquet that differentiates it from other productions scattered around the world.

Even the Pinot Grigio, which could not actually be called an indigenous wine, has now taken up residence in our territory and is easily appreciated for its celebrated coppery color even by those who are neophytes to the wine world. Its soft body is characterized by a consistent savory character that gives hints of apricot and tropical fruit at the end of the sip.

Another relative of Pinot Gris, also of French origin is the Pinot Blanc, which is often used as a varietal blend and is perhaps too little understood in its elegant purity. It is a delicate and refined wine with floral notes, capable of surprising the most subtle palates. It goes well with lean appetizers and velvety dishes.
